Who am I?

Hello! My name is Samantha Joslin. Born and raised in Reno, I have built a deep relationship with my community through my work in customer service. I began with children and local politicians with the City of Sparks and am now in laboratory robotics with Hamilton. I am passionate about the responsibility that comes with management, the value of customer service, and on a personal level-family, friends, and fresh air.

Management and Customer Service...

One of the skills that I find most useful is an ability to connect with people and identify their motivation. This is key to successfully managing your team so that each individual member is supported in a way that specifically meets their needs. This is also vital in customer service. When you know where a customer is coming from you can orient their care and your responses in a way that they will be most receptive to. Personal connection and understanding is imperative to building and maintaining customer and professional relationships and is the backbone of any long standing business.  Elderly business people, handshake and b2b for partnership, trust or deal agreement at the office table. Me...

I met my love, my husband, in high school. We now have two girls in high school and our little guy (7) keeps everyone on their toes. My oldest is a multi sport athlete and the guardian of the bunch. My middle child is the heart of the trio and is a performer in band, theatre, and choir. My youngest is the comic relief and reflects both his sisters with dancing and karate.  We are a close knit family with uncles, cousins, and grandparents all gathering at our house for every event and holiday you can think of.

Outside of school events and family functions I love to be outside. I am in a never ending battle with my garden, hoping to successfully grow a pumpkin to carve for Halloween one year. I love  kayaking, camping and being out on the lake or on the banks of the Truckee.  My family has a spot we like to go to on the river where we enjoy ice cream and wading out to a large rock in the middle of the water. I also like to rope my husband into home improvement projects and do random sewing and crafts.

Beyond my personal life, I thoroughly enjoy management and customer service. I have worked many years starting from lower level roles and working my way to management. The company I work for now presents a new challenge in that a majority of the employees have been there for a long time and intend to stay for many years more. Making it more difficult to work up the ranks. As such, I decided to apply to the University of Nevada Reno and am now working towards a degree in Business Management. Not only do I think this will give me a leg up in future applications, I believe it will allow me to have a more holistic view of business processes and goals. I also have a tendency to dream up businesses I'd like to run and this degree may bring those far fetched ideas just a little closer to reality.
